Dear Club Members,
Well you’re almost at the end now of your year being a MUSA Junior Archaeologist. Have a look at all the pictures I’ve put up of the February club meeting! I hope you all enjoyed hearing from MUSA curators Amy and Claire and what they do behind the scenes. As you all know this was an important club meeting because you will need all the information you learned for planning your own exhibition for next month. You came up with some great ideas for your exhibition tables, it seems like learning all about bones was your favourite club meeting! I hope you’re looking forward to setting up your exhibition and showing your friends and families what you’ve been doing and what you’ve learnt over the last 12 months. Remember you are the curators this time! So far we will have displays on: digging, underwater, bones, coastal, pottery…. what else could you show? Send me any comments and I’ll ‘dig’ out all of your objects and worksheets to display ready for next time.
Looking forward to seeing you on the 19th March (11am – 1pm) for the preparation! Remember to tell all your friends and family about the exhibition the following day on Sunday 20th March 12 – 4pm.
See you all soon!
Sarah

Dear Club Members,
Happy New Year!
It was good to see you all back at MUSA today braving the rainy weather to come along. A special thank you to our guests Paula and Colin who are experienced local underwater archaeologists and came to talk to you about what you can find under the sea. Do any of you want to learn how to dive so you can dig up shipwrecks? What would be the type of objects you would want to find?
Next month we have one of MUSA’s own curators talking to you and there will be a special behind the scenes tour of where we keep all our objects that aren’t on display. You’ll also be seeing what happens to an object once it gets to a museum and learning about how all those finds get turned into displays for places like MUSA. This is so you can plan your OWN exhibition for all your parents to come along and see in March. So start thinking about what the best bits of the last 12 months have been that you can turn into displays and demonstrations to show!
Here are some of the pictures that I took today and there will be more to follow. Tell me what you think!

Unfortunately MUSA was a tad snowed in last week and so we had to cancel this months archaeology club
Our special guest Alix Powers Jones was going to be telling you all about archaeology ‘Under the Microscope’ which we were all really looking forward to so hopefully we can re-shedule her visit for the New Year. In the meantime I hope you have all been enjoying the snow and keeping warm and we look forward to seeing you next year! Coming up…… Underwater archaeology!
Merry Xmas and Happy New year

Hi Everyone!
Did you all enjoy learning all about bones? BIG Thank You to Maeve and Mairead who came all the way from Ireland to tell you all about what they do when they’re digging up skeletons, and what information they can tell us. We all need to suggest a name for our Archaeology Club Skeleton which you all decided was a girl, so suggestions on the blog comments page please and we’ll pick out of a hat next time we meet.
In December we will have a visit from another archaeologist called Alix. The theme for the month is ‘Under the Microscope’ and she is going to tell you all about some of the teeny tiny pieces of evidence archaeologists find, so all you budding scientific archaeologists who want to work in laboratories make sure you come along!
December 11th, 11am – 1pm.
See you all soon!
Sarah
P.S. pictures from November coming soon…

Dear Club members,
Did you all enjoy your visit from Tom Dawson? ALL three teams won the quiz because you all got 23.5 points – well done! Remember to keep your treasures from the visit to the beach safe so you can bring them back for the exhibition and parents day in March. Can you remember what you found? We had lots of glass, some pottery and even some pieces of flint – all REAL archaeology finds. The trick is to figure out what they mean about the people living on the coast…..
NEXT MONTH – In November we will be looking at bones. We have a visit from some more special guest archaeologists who are going to tell you all about digging for bones. What can bones tell us about ancient people and their lives? How many bones are there in the human body? Don’t miss it!
Have fun on your October holidays, see you all soon – November 13th!

Hi Junior Archaeologists! We all enjoyed the metal detecting and hope you had as much fun as we did!
The various items you successfully dug were cleaned well and could be put on
display at the end of the year when you do your exhibition. What did you think of the talk from our treasure expert Professor Ian Carradice – Do you think hunting for treasure or valuing the treasure would be more fun?
There are a lot of pictures from this month’s activities and talk and you
might be able to spot yourself!I’ll be uploading them soon along with the photos from August. We’re looking forward to seeing you next month
where our theme will be coastal archaeology with local archaeologist Tom Dawson from SCAPE. We’ll be looking at everything from sea to salt to sand with hopefully some sunshine too!
Looking forward to seeing you all in October!
